How it works
The app has two parts, and each one has a job. You don’t read chapters before the questions start. You’re taught by being asked, a few questions at a time.
Learn
Learn is a route of short practices, about ten questions each, in seven steps from road signs to the laws. Every answer is explained the moment you check it, so a wrong answer is how the next thing is taught. Work through the practices until you’ve answered every question and fixed every mistake.
Test
5 simulated tests, each one in the same format as your state’s real test. Nothing is revealed until the end, and you’re graded against your state’s passing score.
What makes it work
Four things the app does, so what you practice is what you remember on test day.
Check an answer and the reasoning appears right there. You learn the rule while the question is still in front of you.
A wrong answer isn’t a score you live with. The question goes to your mistakes in Review, where you practice them on their own. Get one right there and it leaves the list. Miss it again and it comes back.
Take a simulated test and see how likely you are to pass the real one. Your latest test counts the most, and the more tests you take, the more accurate it gets.
The same number of questions, the same passing score and the same time limit as your state’s test. Nothing is revealed mid-test, every attempt is graded at the end, and you can retake any test with its questions reordered.

Yes, and a bit more. It has every kind of question your state’s DMV knowledge test asks, the written test you pass to get a learner’s permit, and explains each one as you answer. Then 5 simulated tests check you in your state’s exact format.
It depends on your state. In the states that publish it, it runs from 18 questions in Pennsylvania to 50 in Florida, New Jersey, Utah and Wisconsin, with a passing score of 70% to 88%. The state pages list every format.
All 50 states and Washington, DC. You choose your state during setup, and the test simulator uses your state’s number of questions, passing score and time limit. You can change it any time in Settings.
You need an internet connection to start a practice or a test, because the questions and their pictures are downloaded rather than built into the app. If a practice’s pictures are still downloading, the app asks you to wait a moment. Once you’ve started, a dropped connection never interrupts you.
The app is available in English and Spanish. The questions are in English for now, and a Spanish set will arrive as an update to the questions rather than a new version of the app.
