What the New Jersey test looks like

New Jersey’s test is the longest in the country: no state asks more than 50 questions. You need 80% to pass, which means you can miss 10 questions and still get your permit. There is no time limit, so read every question twice.

The test is given by the MVC (New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission). Its questions come from the official New Jersey driver’s handbook, which is also where every DMV Champ question is checked.

The New Jersey Driver Manual calls it the knowledge test. Passing it is how you get a special learner permit, which you can apply for from age 16 in New Jersey.
